about the jury

Matheus Katayama is a Brazilian-born Creative Director based in Tokyo, leading original work across film, brand, and editorial at AIMS Inc. – holding creative authorship from concept to final cut.

His career began in London at nineteen, while he was still a university student. A year later in Tokyo, he took up an apprenticeship as editorial assistant to editor Masa Sugatsuke – a formative period that shaped how he thinks about narrative, image, and pacing, and that led him into fashion magazine editing before he moved into directing and art direction. He stepped into his current role at AIMS Inc. after nearly a decade of working across editorial, film, and brand.

As a film director, his credits include campaigns for Vivienne Westwood, Valentino, Maison Margiela Fragrances, Laura Mercier, Google, Sony, Tsuchiya Kaban, and i-D Japan, as well as lyric videos for Troye Sivan. He has also contributed photography to the BOYS! BOYS! BOYS! book series, with the project covered in Attitude UK

Known for his storytelling instinct and bold creative takes, Matheus works fluidly across mediums – mixing methods, references, and disciplines until the result feels new but organic, never forced. He’s drawn to projects where unexpected combinations lock into something singular: distinctive on the surface, coherent underneath.
