about the speaker
Rong Soralamp has worked in the Thai advertising industry for over 20 years. He began his career at the renowned production house Phenomena, where he spent many years assisting internationally acclaimed director Thanonchai Sornsriwichai. This experience shaped his distinctive eye for storytelling, performance, and human behavior.
Today, Rong is the founder and lead director of HOME RUN FILM, where he continues to craft emotionally grounded and visually engaging commercial films.
His work has received recognition from major international award shows, including a Bronze Cannes Lion (2024) for Sabina – Braless, a D&AD Wood Pencil (2022) for the interactive film Songkran Stranger, and multiple Spikes Asia awards for brands including GQ and Hi-Chew.
At the heart of Rong’s work is the relationship between humour and humanity. Rather than chasing perfection, he is drawn to the beauty of “human error” — the small mistakes, awkward pauses, and imperfect moments that make people feel real. For Rong, these honest imperfections are where the strongest emotional connections — and the most genuine laughter — begin.

Comedy remains one of advertising’s most powerful creative tools. But in a market like Australia, which is shaped by different cultures, influences and sensibilities, making people laugh is rarely straightforward. What feels sharp and effective locally, can quickly lose meaning, tone or impact when campaigns travel across regions and audiences.
This session explores the challenge of creating comedy in an increasingly global industry. Balancing local nuance with broader appeal, navigating client expectations, and making the punchline land across different audiences.
The auditorium is located on Level 2 of The Rebel Theatre.
